Please introduce yourself using the comment box below.

We would like to know:

  1. where you are coming from
  2. what you do - are you a student or do you work in a met service?
  3. is there a key topic or idea that you would like to gain from the course?

If you want to arrange meeting up for group travel to save money on buses or for meals on the Sunday night then please use the Satellite Data Assimilation general discussion forum.  (Also space to discuss any burning satellite data assimilation questions!)

  1. Hi all,

My name is Daniela Di Leo and I am currently working at the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT). I expect from this course to gain more knowledge on satellite measurement principles and retrieval techniques and particularly I would like to have an insight in radio occultation, microwave and scatterometer observations together with their assimilation in NWP model.

    See you next week!

  2. Hi,

I have so far worked with a number of academic and research institutions on radiative transfer modelling and measurements of cloud ice and snow, mostly from (sub-)millimeter wave passive sensors. I am now joining the German weather service to work on data assimilation of polarimetric weather radar, starting with extending the forward model/operator to cover polarimetric observations of different types of precipitation. My goal is to extend and deepen my so far rather basic and general knowledge of data assimilation. I'm particularly interested to learn about the different existing techniques, why and when they are applied, and about the newest developments in the field.

Looking forward to a week full of learning, practicing, communicating, discussing... See you soon!
