This View icon provides a container for user-defined text boxes, and in the future will also serve as a container for imported images. Multiple Annotation View icons can be placed in a plot, allowing, for example, a means to provide comments on complex plots. The user text is provided by means of a Text Plotting icon, which can be dropped in a plot frame containing this type of view.

The Annotation View icon can also be used for layout purposes - if no Text Plotting icon is dropped then an empty box will be created in the Display Window / paper sheet.
This icon combines the functionality of three Metview 3 Views: TextView, EmptyView and ImportView (to be implemented).

The macro language equivalent is annotationview().
