This page illustrates the procedure, step-by-step presented in How to acknowledge , cite and reference data published on the Climate Data Store to acknowledge, cite and reference and cite a Climate Data Store (CDS) catalogue entry and the data published as part of it to acknowledge and cite the ERA5 hourly data on single levels from 1979 to present dataset. This dataset is generated under the framework of the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S). For such dataset, the Licence to use Copernicus products only applies.

Use Case: A user has downloaded ERA5 hourly data on single levels from 1979 to present data from the Climate Data Store to calculate some results that will be presented in an article. The user did not download the data to redistribute it. The user downloaded data from the Climate Data Store on 14 April 2021.

Alternatively, one may refer to the dataset using the following formula:

Hersbach, H. et al., (2018) was downloaded from the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) Climate Data Store.

Use the same citation in Step 2 and add it in the Bibliography

Add the citation in the Bibliography as shown on the Citation pop-out window e.g. if you downloaded the data on 23rd February 2020.

:

Hersbach, H., Bell, B., Berrisford, P., Biavati, G., Horányi, A., Muñoz Sabater, J., Nicolas, J., Peubey, C., Radu, R., Rozum, I., Schepers, D., Simmons, A., Soci, C., Dee, D., Thépaut, J-N. (2018): ERA5 hourly data on single levels from 1979 to present. Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) Climate Data Store (CDS). (Accessed on 14-APR-2021), 10.24381/cds.adbb2d47

In this use case, the user may refer to the dataset used throughout the article as follows:

Hersbach, H. et al., (2018)

Each time the above is mentioned in the text of the article, this is a reference for the reader to check the full citation in the Bibliography section.

The acknowledgement section should also mention the following:
