Surface information slightly less accurate north of 75 degrees N

The near-surface regional reanalysis variables are influenced by the surface physiographic data bases databases used. CARRA2 uses For this purpose, CARRA2 relies on the ECOCLIMAP Second Generation data bases for this and additionally databases, supplemented by a set of corrections and updates are used from enhanced information sources for to further improving improve the surface description. One of the improvements implemented in CARRA2 is the use of high-resolution Leaf Area Index However, we could not address some known issues in the leaf area index and land surface albedo climatology derived from the MODIS satellite. However, we were only able to implement these improvements south of 75 degrees N, leading to input data, therefore north of 75°N the data remain slightly coarser and smoother information for leaf area index and land surface albedo used further north. The impact on the reanalysis variables is minor, but this can potentially be seen it might still be noticeable in some applications.
