OpenIFS is an ECMWF activity that provides an portable version of the IFS forecast model for use in research and education.

This user meeting brings together scientists, current and prospective users of the ECMWF OpenIFS model from universities, national meteorological services and other organisations to discuss topics on the workshop theme. The workshop will start with a training on the OpenIFS model on Monday, followed by the scientific programme from Tuesday to Friday.

The user meeting is free, open to all and early career scientists are encouraged to apply. A limited amount of financial support is available for early career scientists.

The workshop theme will be: The impact of moist processes on weather forecasts

The workshop will include a training on the OpenIFS model on Monday, followed by a science programme of keynote presentations from invited speakers, contributed presentations, poster and practical sessions from Tuesday to Friday. Posters will be presented on Tuesday evening and displayed throughout the workshop.

Abstracts on topics related to the workshop theme are welcome as well as on any other research or education use of IFS and OpenIFS. To attend the meeting without submitting abstract is also possible, but please note that due to classroom size, the number of participants is limited to 50.

Universities grant credit for trainings and courses. While ultimately it is up to your home institution how much credit is awarded, our workshop is advised being awarded 2 ECTS in the European system. ECMWF can give the participants a certificate at the end of the event.

Registration to the workshop is free. The programme will include social events. Refreshments during the coffee breaks and the ice breaker reception/poster session, lunches and the official workshop dinner are provided.

Audience

The workshop is intended for those interested in or using OpenIFS and learning more about the model. We welcome new and existing users. The workshop is also a networking opportunity to meet with other international scientists interested in NWP and/or using IFS.

Please note that numbers are limited (around 50 participants) due to the size of the classroom at University of Reading. Early registration is recommended.

A limited amount of financial support is available to cover travel and/or accommodation costs. Priority will be given to early career scientists giving a presentation. Please indicate your request for financial support in the registration form with giving the required details. Please note that the registration deadline is earlier in case of requesting support.

There are 12 rooms available for Friday night.
