Meteorological Interpolation and Regridding (MIR) is a comprehensive and flexible package used at ECMWF.   It  interpolates data for presentation or other purposes.  It has three aims:

The procedure uses an unstructured grid system allowing great flexibility and has proved economical with computer processing time.

The interpolation package MIR does not use a land-sea mask when interpolating data to another resolution.  Processing at the appropriate resolution of IFS data will already have taken the land-sea mask into account.  However, interpretation of the IFS land-sea mask by MIR shows a few points change from land to sea or sea to land.  This only very slightly modifies the display of geographical features.

Users should keep updated about the products through the ECMWF Newsletters and web site.

Further information available on interpretation of MARS data using MIR.
