The Dashboard

Users who are logged-in to the ECMWF website have a personal "dashboard space".   Users can arrange and save charts and diagrams to allow easy recall for future viewing.  Once configured, the Dashboard can become an extremely powerful and flexible tool for the forecaster.

To access the Dashboard:

• Ensure the user’s personal name in the top right corner of the ECMWF web page.
• Select “Chart Dashboard” from the drop-down menu. 

To add items to the Dashboard:

from Open Access charts:

Charts:

• Select the desired chart from the Open Charts display.
• Click on "Select dimensions" and then choose the Base time, Valid Time, and/or Area.
• Click on the Link Icon (middle icon).  Click on "Add to dashboard" from the dropdown menu. 

Meteograms, EFI/CDFs, Vertical Profiles:

• Select "Point Based Products" from the "Product Type"  section of the menu on the Open Charts display.
• Click on "Select dimensions" and then choose the Base time, Valid Time, and/or Location.
• Click on the Link Icon (middle icon).  Click on "Add to dashboard" from the dropdown menu. 

The chart will appear on subsequent Dashboard presentations.

Alternative methods:

• Charts:

  • Open the dashboard.
  • Select “Add Widget” (top left of frame).
  • Select “New chart widget” (from drop down list).
    • A recently used ecChart appears.
    • Select “Edit” tool (small pencil in tool box kit at top right of frame).
      • Insert a title.
    • Select “product”.
      • Select from a pictorial list of:
        • Your products saved in ecCharts
        • A limited selection of pre-selected ECMWF charts (extreme forecast index, ensemble probabilities & percentiles).
    • Select “projection”.
      • Select from a pictorial list of:
        • Your projections saved in ecCharts
        • A wide selection of pre-defined ECMWF projections.

• Meteograms, EFI/CDFs, Vertical Profiles:

  • Open the dashboard.
  • Select “Add Widget” (top left of frame).
  • Select from drop–down list
    • "New 10day, 15day, or sub-seasonal range meteogram widget".  A meteogram for 0°N, 0°W appears.
    • "New EFI/CDF meteogram widget".  An EFI/CDF for 0°N, 0°W appears.
    • "Vertical Profiles meteogram widget".  A vertical Profile for 0°N, 0°W appears.
  • Select “Edit” tool (small pencil in tool box kit at top right of frame).
    • Insert a title.
    • Insert Latitude and Longitude or enter a city name.
  • Select “more”.
    • Select from a pictorial list of:
    • A selection of pre-selected meteograms, plumes and time series.

The chart will appear on subsequent Dashboard presentations.

from ecCharts charts:

These are composite charts of ECMWF products, extreme forecast indices, or ensemble probabilities & percentiles).  Thresholds, contour settings etc can be selected by the user.

• Create the desired chart on ecCharts.
• Click on "Save", select "Save Product as..." from drop down menu.
• Name the chart (optional).

• Open the dashboard.
  • Select “Add Widget” (top left of frame).
  • Select “New chart widget” (from drop down list).
• A recently saved ecChart appears.
• Select “Edit” tool (small pencil in tool box kit at top right of frame).
  • Insert a title.
  • Select “product”.
    • Select from a pictorial list of:
      • Your products previously saved in ecCharts (Your Products).
      • A selection of pre-selected ECMWF charts (extreme forecast index, ensemble probabilities & percentiles).
  • Select “projection”.
    • Select from a pictorial list of:
      • Your projections saved in ecCharts (Your Projections).
      • A wide selection of pre-defined ECMWF projections (global, continental, or national).

The chart will appear on subsequent Dashboard presentations.

from Tropical Cyclone charts:

• Tropical Cyclones:

  • Select "Tropical Cyclones" from the "Product Type" section of the menu on the Open Charts display.
  • Click on "Tropical Cyclone Activity" then choose the Base time, Valid Time, Area, and Intensity.
  • Click on the Link Icon (middle icon).  Click on "Add to dashboard" from the dropdown menu.

• Tropical Storm Probabilities:

  • Select "Tropical Cyclones" from the "Product Type" section of the menu on the Open Charts display.
  • Click on "Tropical Storm Probabilities" then choose the Base time, Valid Time, Forecast, Area, and Intensity.
  • Click on the Link Icon (middle icon).  Click on "Add to dashboard" from the dropdown menu.

• Alternative method:

  • On ECMWF entry page, Select “Forecasts”, Select “Charts”.
  • Select “Latest tropical cyclones”.
  • From the list on the left:
    • Select "Latest Cyclones" 
    • Select from “Cyclone products” (plumes, strike probability, track etc.)
    • Select from “Cyclone results” (to choose another tropical cyclone).
  • Click on the + icon to add to the Dashboard.

Controls on the Dashboard:

• Open the dashboard.
  • Select “Add Widget” (top left of frame).
  • Select "Controls (from drop down list).
• A control panel appears.
  • Selection of any icon adjusts all the various dashboard items together.

The control panel will appear on subsequent Dashboard presentations.

To delete items from the Dashboard:

• Open the dashboard.
  • Select the small cross at the top right of the frame to be deleted.
