The following is a description of the latest operational release of GloFAS (v4.4), which was launched on 10 September 2025. For an overview of other GloFAS releases, please see: GloFAS versioning system.

Summary

GloFAS v4.4 introduces several minor changes to the system, including:

  • Inclusion of ECMWF’s Artificial Intelligence/Integrated Forecasting System (AIFS) model in GloFAS.
    • Documentation about the operational release of ECMWF's AIFS model, including information on versions, is available on this dedicated AIFS webpage.
    • AIFS Single is added to the ECMWF ensemble hydrograph in GloFAS-IS, without any change in the reporting points calculation: placeholder - GloFAS Reporting Points
    • New AIFS Single layer shows the highest return period exceedance within the 15-day forecast range based on the AIFS single forecast: Placeholder GloFAS AIFS Single

This upgrade of GloFAS has no impact on the GloFAS modelling results.
