Hello,

I have downloaded files from here

http://apps.ecmwf.int/datasets/data/interim-full-daily/levtype=sfc/

for a range of consecutive months.

I find that they overlap for 1 time stamp, e.g.

JANUARY FILE: ... 2018-01-31 12:00:00, 2018-01-31 18:00:00, 2018-02-01 00:00:00

FEBRUARY FILE: 2018-02-01 00:00:00, 2018-02-01 06:00:00, 2018-02-01 12:00:00

but the data is not exactly the same; for 2 m temperature, for instance, they differ by up to 0.5 K.

If this is expected, which of the values should I use, or should I take an average?

Or if not, what am I missing?

Apologies if I have overlooked a relevant post to this and thank you in advance for your help.

Sabine

    Dear Sabine,

This forum is for users of the OpenIFS model but I try to answer quickly. If you need a longer answer, please contact advisory@ecmwf.int, which is the main support email address.

If you download analysis data purely (for instance you select time 0/6/12/18 UTC and step 0) you should not get overlap. If you try to download forecasts at the same time, it can cause overlapping. I suggest separating the requests for analysis and forecast.

    Best regards,
    Gabriella
