The new WWRP working group on Predictability, Dynamics and Ensemble Forecasting (PDEF) has a larger scope, also covering predictability and dynamical processes. It is planned that the working group will focus particularly on specific some particular scientific challenges:
- Stochastic representation of the effect of sub-grid-scale uncertainty in numerical models
- Construction of ensemble initial conditions
- Interactions of diabatic processes with meso/synoptic scale dynamics
- Assessment of multi-model ensembles and calibration techniques
- Coupled modelling & assimilation
