To ensure that computing resources are distributed equitably and to discourage irresponsible use users' jobs on the Atos HPCF are charged for the resources they have used against a project account. Each project account is allocated a number of System Billing Units (SBU) at the beginning of each accounting year (1 January to 31 December).
From 1 January 2026, users with access to GPUs will be allocated an additional entitlement of GPU Billing Units (GBU).
You can monitor your usage in the HPC SBU accounting portal.

GPU accounting
ECMWF provides GPU resources on two clusters within the ATOS HPCF:
- The AC cluster provides access to Nvidia A100 GPUs
- The AG cluster provides access to Grace Hopper GH200 Superchips
Accounting for these GPUs will be introduced from 1 January 2026. The accounting units will be GPU Billing Units (GBU) and CPU usage will no longer be charged on GPU nodes.
Performance of these GPUs is not identical, therefore 2 unique billing units will be used:
- GBU-A for GPUs on the AC cluster
- GBU-B for GPUs on the AG cluster
The unit 'GBU' refers to GPU-seconds of usage; using 1 GPU for 1 hour will cost 3600 GBU, regardless of the GPU used.
Users can use the same billing accounts for GPUs as they use with CPUs, but each resource (CPU, A100 and H100) will have a separate amount of units allocated and available for usage.
Information regarding the account allocation and usage is available on the accounting page.
Please note: Accessing the HPC does not grant automatic access to GPU nodes. Access to GPUs needs to be requested separately via your member state computing representative.
