 Soil type is a index taking an integer value between 1 and 7 over land points and 0 over sea points.  It is interpolated using a nearest neighbour method. Differences occur due to the different selection of nearest points from the source grid.

HRES O1280

Soil type has been interpolated from the O1280 octahedral reduced Gaussian grid to regular lat-lon grids at different target target resolutions using EMOSLIB and MIR. 

  • In general, the selection of the nearest neighbour point is in agreement with that returned by the ecCodes find_nearest routine
  • Many differences occur close to the coasts due to the absence of any land sea-mask processing by MIR
  • Typically, fewer than 1% of points are different

The plots show the differences with the contours chosen on a logarithmic scale to enhance the smaller differences.  Differences smaller than 0.5% of the field range are not shown. Grid points where the absolute difference is greater than 50% of the maximum absolute difference are indicated with red (EMOSLIB greater than MIR) and blue (EMOSLIB less than MIR) filled circles.
