Filesystem outage

On Wednesday, 21 October 2026, we will carry out a 12-hour maintenance session on the Lustre filesystem that supports your SCRATCH and HPCPERM folders. The maintenance is scheduled to start at 07:00 UTC and finish at 19:00 UTC.

During this time-window, the filesystem will be unavailable and all your batch jobs will remain queued until the session is complete. The job status reported by the squeue command will show Reason: "Licenses" or "AssocMaxJobsLimit". If you have any operational or production requirements to run any jobs during the maintenance window, please do let us know via the ECMWF Support Portal up to a week before (13 October 2026).

Besides SCRATCH and HPCPERM, data from these projects which share the same Lustre backend will also be unavailable during the session:

  • fws4
  • destine_hydro
  • CEMS_Floods
  • C3SHydroEU
  • C3SHydroGL

Responsible usage of the storage

SCRATCH and HPCPERM usage has reached very high levels and performance has started to degrade. Even if you're within quota, please review your data and delete (or transfer elsewhere) anything you no longer need online.

Unused data left in place hurts filesystem performance for everyone. Once you're done with transient data, please delete it promptly — even in SCRATCH, despite its automatic purge mechanism.
