Introduction

The EWC Community Hub is composed of Items. You can use Items for infrastructure management,  operative system configuration , application deployment data modeling recipes, documentation sharing, or combinations thereof. Deployable Items can be executed to provision or deploy resources directly, while Non-deployable ones act as libraries or examples to integrate into your workflows.

Using Items

As a basic example, consider the following user-journey:

  1. Visit the EWC Community Hub Dashboard website
  2. Search for an Item name, such as "ECWMF data"
  3. Filter for technology by clicking on the "Ansible Playbook" checkbox
  4. From the short-list of hits, check the summary of the playbooks contributed by ECMWF, in search of one for installing the MARS client on VMs
  5. Make note of the version of the featured Item
  6. Click the Item to see its full description, supported customizations, links to home, owner, suitable open-source LICENSE, and whether or not is deployable (if relevant for the use-case).

If an Item that interests you is categorized as Deployable but it does not offer easy-to-follow deployment documentation, you may find the Community Hub Tooling page helpful to get started.

When in doubt, you may also ask community members over the peer-support channel on the discussion platform, to ask other community members about their experience or recommendations. You may also endorse Items you like (see  "How to upvote Items I use and love?").

Different support levels

Always check the support level offered by the Item owner before requesting their technical assistance. This should help you set correct expectations and deadlines for your task, while respecting the time and issue review resources of the maintainers.

Some Items may offer little to no support or maintenance, but the community in general might have troubleshooting tips–ask over the peer-support channel on the discussion platform.
