Troubleshooting web login problems or site login


Prompt on login "invalid username or password"

Login for access to HPC or Mars fails

These services are available to authorised users only. Please see conditions of access for further details.

Login to VDI fails

While everywhere else on your PC, the local keyboard layout applies — within VDI it does not.

If you are using some special characters in your password, these might be located differently on the keyboard, depending on the keyboard layout. Sometimes even the normal letters are different (qwerty / qwertz / azerty). 

Please check the VDI's own keyboard layout (in the upper-right corner of the screen), and choose the one that fits best your hardware keyboard. (For Qwerty EN1 or EN2 for MAC)

Once you are logged in, you may go to the keyboard settings and remove the unnecessary ones from the list.

If the initial login works via the ECMWF website but fails on any other service, please raise a ticket

What to do if you get a "Your login details are incorrect" message when trying to log in?

  • If you are already registered with ECMWF please follow the How to reset my ECMWF password procedure. This should give you a new temporary password that you need to change following these instructions How to change my ECMWF password 
  • If you are not registered with ECMWF you can create a new user id on this page
  • If you do not receive a password reset email check your Junk/Spam folders

How to refresh my web login session

Sometimes your session on your browser for ECMWF service may require a complete refresh because of some expired cookies or if things don't render correctly on the site.

I have forgotten my password what should I do?

I have a email user id and a short three or four character user id.  Which one do I use to log in?

How long does my password last?

System set passwords last 30 days, user set passwords last 12 months. After that you will be required to reset your password.

What happens if I do not reset my password?

If you do not reset your password and do not make any login using the ECMWF single sign-on (SSO) to access ECMWF web or computing services then your account will be disabled and you will no longer be able to login. 

I have tried to reset my password but I'm unable to login and can't create a ticket what should i do?
