Blog from November, 2025

Dear all ,

We are planning an upgrade of Morpheus at EUMETSAT side of EWC on Thursday 4 December2025 between 8:30 UTC and 10:30 UTC.

During the upgrade window, the Morpheus user interface and APIs will not be available. However, the update does not impact existing workloads, so your VMs will be unaffected, and the Openstack API will still be available.

We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.

For updates during the maintenance, please refer to the EWC service status page

For any questions or comments or issues, please contact us via support ticket or via Rocketchat

Thank you,

The EWC Team

Dear @all ,

We would like to inform you about an upcoming maintenance window on EUMETSAT side of the EWC that will take place on Tuesday, 18 November 2025, between 10:00 UTCand 11:00 UTC.

This maintenance will affect interaction with OpenStack resources and EWC services on EUMETSAT side of the EWC.

This intervention is a necessary step to ensure the continued security and reliability of all workloads hosted on the EWC on EUMETSAT side.

What to expect:
• Temporary unavailability of VM lifecycle operations (create/modify/delete) from Morpheus and from Openstack directly.
• Short interruptions in storage and network access.
• Existing VMs are expected to remain running, although workloads that cannot tolerate brief disruptions may experience impact.

Recommendations for users:
If your workload is not resilient to temporary disruptions, we advise you to stop it before the maintenance begins and restart it once the maintenance is complete.

Our team and the cloud provider will be closely monitoring the process to minimise service impact.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

For updates during the maintenance, please refer to the EWC service status page

Best regards,
EWC Team on the EUMETSAT side

Dear all,

We are planning to remove the following shared object storage buckets from the EUMETSAT side of the EWC on 21 November (see the EUMETSAT Data Store for alternative access):

  • ascat.metop-abc.level-1b.native
  • iasi.metop-a.level-1c.native
  • mviri.meteosat-0-degree.level-15.native
  • seviri.meteosat-0-degree.level-15.native
  • nwc-saf.0-degree.level-2 (Note: the corresponding CF-compliant version remain)

And following OPERA composites in BUFR format (please use the corresponding HDF5 products instead):

  • rainfall_accumulation.composite.opera.bufr
  • rainfall_rate.composite.opera.bufr
  • reflectivity.composite.opera.bufr

If you still require local shared bucket access to any of these datasets, please contact us via:

Hi all ,

EUMETCast Terrestrial over AMT is being upgraded to support anycast addressing on the GEANT AMT Relays. A new anycast address is now available: 62.40.96.44

This upgrade ensures automatic routing to the nearest AMT Relay, improving reliability and simplifying multicast data distribution.

🔧 For Existing Stations

All existing users should update their AMT configuration to use the new anycast address before the end of October. After this date, individual AMT Relay IPs will be retired.

Please follow the update workflow provided here: How to update startup script for EUMETCast Terrestrial station on EWC

This workflow will replace the station’s startup script to support the new anycast configuration.

🔄 For New Stations After 14th May 2025

If you are setting up a new EUMETCast Terrestrial station using the VM available on Morpheus after 14th May 2025, no action is needed — the configuration is already up to date.

If you encounter any issues just contact us via our Support Portal or discussion platform.
