I am seeking  a doctoral student (PhD student) and a postdoctoral researcher to work at the University of Helsinki, Finland on the Research Council of Finland funded project "Future predictability of hazardous weather in Europe and in the Arctic" supervised by myself, Victoria Sinclair. Collaborators of the project include researchers from the University of Exeter, UK and NASA Goddard.

The project will quantify how the accuracy of weather forecasts, and thus the predictability, of synoptic-scale cyclones affecting Europe and the Arctic, and their associated hazardous weather, will change in the future and identify why. Using the weather forecast model OpenIFS and the supercomputer LUMI, we will perform thousands of numerical simulations, including both idealised baroclinic wave simulations and dynamical downscaling simulations of different cyclones sampled from climate model output.
