Step-by-step guide

Metview uses a single environment variable to tell it where external ecCodes tables are, regardless of whether they are GRIB or BUFR. To use your own BUFR tables, set the environment variable METVIEW_EXTRA_GRIB_DEFINITION_PATH to point to your ecCodes BUFR tables. For example, if your tables are in this path:

/path/to/my/bufr_tables/bufr

you should do this before starting Metview:

export METVIEW_EXTRA_GRIB_DEFINITION_PATH=/path/to/my/bufr_tables/

Note that you should point to the directory above  the 'bufr' directory.
