Comment: Confirmed: This is an operational IFS variable.

Two of the new output parameters introduced with cycle 45r1 are called:

These variables represent the total water vapour flux in the west-east (zonal) and south-north (meridional) directions and are calculated on model levels using the specific humidity and zonal and meridional winds. The model levels follow the terrain and hence mountainous regions. In the plots below, an example is shown of the eastward and northward water vapour fluxes, and the total flux magnitude.

Vertical integral of eastward water vapour flux in the e-suite (EXPVER 72) at analysis 00UTC Tuesday 22nd May 2018. The mean sea level pressure (MSLP) is also shown.
Vertical integral of northward water vapour flux in the e-suite (EXPVER 72) at analysis 00UTC Tuesday 22nd May 2018. The MSLP is also shown.
Magnitude of the water vapour flux in the e-suite (EXPVER 72) at analysis 00UTC Tuesday 22nd May 2018. The MSLP is also shown.

On 14th May 2018 an issue was found with these fluxes in the 45r1 e-suite. The eastward water vapour flux was archived as the northward water vapour flux; and the northward water vapour flux was archived as the eastward water vapour flux. The fix was implemented starting with the 06UTC BC run on Monday 21st May 2018.
