Question

I retrieved ERA5 daily ocean waves 10m wind speed from the Climate Data Store but I cannot find it anymore?

Answer

ERA5 daily single levels ocean waves 10m wind speed and direction have been renamed as follows:

Before

After

ERA5 daily single levels > ocean waves  > 10m wind speedERA5 daily single levels > ocean waves  > ocean surface stress equivalent 10m neutral wind speed
ERA5 daily single levels > ocean waves > 10m wind directionERA5 daily single levels > ocean waves  > ocean surface stress equivalent 10m neutral wind direction

The reason for the change was a parameter name clash between the  ERA5 monthly data wind and ocean waves variables and also with the ERA5 daily ocean waves data.

Before the change was implemented with the publication of the ERA5 monthly averaged data in the Climate Data Store, the variables listed below would have all been referred to as 10m wind speed/direction as shown on the table below! Following the name change, distinction is now clearly made between each of the variables listed below:

Before

Since

ERA5 daily single levels > ocean waves  > 10m wind speedERA5 daily single levels > ocean waves  > ocean surface stress equivalent 10m neutral wind speed
ERA5 daily single levels > ocean waves  > 10m wind speed direction

ERA5 daily single levels > ocean waves  > ocean surface stress equivalent 10m neutral wind direction

ERA5 monthly averaged single levels > ocean waves> 10m wind speedERA5 monthly averaged single levels > ocean waves> ocean surface stress equivalent 10m neutral wind speed
ERA5 monthly averaged single levels > ocean waves> 10m wind directionERA5 monthly averaged single levels > ocean waves> ocean surface stress equivalent 10m neutral wind direction
ERA5 monthly averaged single levels >wind > 10m wind speedERA5 monthly averaged single levels >wind > 10m wind speed
