Quick overview

The following pages describe the steps necessary to ensure a successful build of OpenIFS on your computer.

OpenIFS is intended for installation and use on system external to ECMWF. We do not provide a facility to run OpenIFS for external users.

  1. Prerequisites page. Read this before you start. OpenIFS requires a number of software packages to be available on the target computer system.

  2. Supported systems. Lists the hardware and compilers that we provide compilation configurations for and the support level.

  3. Install grib_api for OpenIFS. Even if you have grib_api already installed on your system, we recommend installing grib_api for OpenIFS as the version accompanying the model has been tested to work correctly.

  4. Install FCM. OpenIFS requires FCM v2.3. You can skip installing FCM if you already have it installed. If not, follow the instructions here.

  5. Download OpenIFS explains where and what files you need to download for the OpenIFS code and how to unpack them.

  6. Installing OpenIFS take you through the process of compiling the model, introduces the build system and shows you how to configure the model for your machine.

  7.  Finally, do a test integration to verify the model works.
