The status of the transition from TAC to BUFR for surface land stations is shown by default when “TAC-to-BUFR” is selected within the “Transition monitoring” module or report type is set to “SYNOP”. The status of the transition from TAC to BUFR for upper-air land stations is shown when the report type is set to “TEMP” under TAC-to-BUFR” component within the Transition Monitoring module. The maps will display the daily status for each reporting station (surface or upper air) for the selected report type category (SYNOP or TEMP, respectively). Those maps show differences in reporting status by marking the stations that disseminated reports encoded in BUFR only (green dot), in TAC only (maroon dot), or in both BUFR and TAC (blue dot). Clicking on the station dot shows a pop-up window with detailed information about the total number of reports encoded in BUFR and in TAC. This pop-up contains a link to a chart with the station status over time (“Time series”). Clicking on the link will display a time series with the total number of daily reports received in BUFR and in TAC format over a month. Note that GTS-to-BUFR status is obtained by comparing the number of reports available in each format based on the observing station reports disseminated on both GTS and WIS2.
