Problem
When a new file is added to Metview the type of the icon appearing in the user interface might be wrong. This can typically happen to binary data such as GRIB, which is identified as a NOTE or BINARY type. It can also happen to Macros, which appear as NOTEs.
Solution
The icon type can be rechecked and fixed for NOTE and BINARY icons. Just right-click the icon and run the Recheck icon type action:
This will rescan the icon and try to assign the correct type to it (in this example it will become a GRIB):
It is also possible the recheck all the NOTE and BINARY icons in a folder from the folder context menu (right-click any area not covered by an icon to get this pop-up):
