TIGGE research areas

TIGGE has data have been used for a wide range of research and development areas, including studies on predictability and dynamical processes for both extra-tropical and tropical weather systems, and development of ensemble-based methods for forecasting and data assimilation.  The scope of TIGGE research includes fields covered by the two other THORPEX working groups - Data Assimilation and Observing System (DAOS) and Predictability and Dynamical Processes (PDP) - and other WWRP working groups, including the Working Group on Numerical Experimentation (WGNE), Socio-economic Research and Applications (SERA) and the Joint Working Group on Forecast Verification Research (JWGFVR).

In the section Resources/Related research we have compiled a list of scientific papers, conference papers and other reports of research using TIGGE data. We encourage all researchers using TIGGE data to inform us, so that we can publicise your work via this website.

Working Groups

The scope of the former THORPEX GIFS-TIGGE working group covers covered applied research on ensemble forecasting, including:

The new WWRP working group on Predictability, Dynamics and Ensemble Forecasting (PDEF) has a larger scope, also covering predictability and dynamical processes.  It is planned that the working group will focus on some particular scientific challenges:
