Dear all,

Now that the current 41r1 e-suite is on track for implementation in April, we would like to communicate our longer-term plans in the coming year. These are of course only indicative at this stage, subject to changes as we proceed with experimentation.

Following preliminary scientific and technical studies, we have elaborated an ambitious plan for the next change of horizontal resolution. The new grid spacing will be significantly reduced to be 9 and 18km for HRES and ENS respectively. The plan is to start running extensive experimentation in summer, provide test data in autumn 2015, for an implementation in 2016. An information page to post regular news on the progress of this resolution upgrade will be created shortly.

In parallel, work is starting to produce ENS runs at 06 and 18 UTC for the Boundary-Condition Programme. These will first be produced in test mode with 3-hourly post-processing, and data will be available before the summer.
