The overall aim of the project is to provide research institutions with a portable, easy-to-use version of the ECMWF IFS model. The OpenIFS model comprises the forecast code of IFS (no data assimilation is provided), supporting software and documentation. OpenIFS has a support team at ECMWF for technical assistance but limited resources for detailed scientific assistance .
The OpenIFS model and accompanying software is provided for use on computers external to ECMWF. We do not offer a facility for external users to run OpenIFS on ECMWF computers.
As the project is still under development we are restricting access to the model to ensure good support for early users and allow the OpenIFS team sufficient time to develop the model & infrastructure.
