Problem

A newly created instance got stuck indefinitely on the finalising step when provisioning.

Solution

Most likely there is a problem with the network setup of this instance.

  1. Go to Provision - Instances and click on the instance not completing.
  2. You will see a screen similar to this one:
  3. If the location IP address shows no IP or a private one (i.e. 192.168.x.x or 10.X.X.X), it is likely that Morpheus couldn't get an external IP address to communicate to the machine, so  it will not be able to update its status.

There are a few possibilities:

If running at ECMWF Cloud...

... and public network was configured.

In this case, the public network was configured when provisioning the VM, but Morpheus picked up as the main address one for a private or data network.

Morpheus will eventually be updated with the right IP address after a while.

... and no public network was configured on the instance.

If that is the case, you will need to delete this instance and create a new one with the right network settings.

When provisioning at ECMWF, please make sure the public network is enabled and floating IPs are not enabled.

If running at EUMETSAT Cloud...

No public floating IP was configured on the instance.

If that is the case, you will need to delete this instance and create a new one with a floating IP assigned.
