Real-time data via open data platforms

All AIFS real-time data are available to access free-of-charge. The data are released as soon as they produced by the AIFS models.

Data are available for up to four days on ECMWF's open data platform, and for various retention periods on other platforms.

Please refer to our designated open data documentation for full details on how to access open data from the full range of platforms.

Please note, during peak times the ECMWF server hosting open data can reach capacity. Users are encouraged to access open data from other platforms using the ecmwf-opendata Python package.

Real-time data via dissemination

AIFS real-time data are available via dissemination.

Users with Gold and Silver service packs can add AIFS requirements to their data flows in the Product Requirements Editor by specifying:

  • class=ai and model=aifs-single for the single model
  • class=ai and model=aifs-ens for the ensemble model

A list of available parameters is provided in ECMWF's shopping cart tool, under GROUP D: AIFS. See the dataset description pages for AIFS Single and AIFS Ensemble for further details of available products.

Please note:

Archive data via MARS

Historical AIFS data are available in ECMWF's Archive and MARS catalogues. A new MARS keyword, "model", has been introduced to support the AIFS. This keyword distinguishes between different AIFS models and will need to be specified in MARS requests for historical data.

AIFS Single data exist from February 2024 onwards:

AIFS ENS data exist from July 2025 onwards:

Graphical products via ecCharts and OpenCharts

Graphical products are available as part of the publicly available charts catalogue and the ecCharts application.

In both applications, search for “aifs” to find the relevant products.

Jupyter notebooks are also available, demonstrating how to recreate plots with ECMWF open data.
